AMS Aluminum Lagging

AMS aluminum lagging is manufactured from wrought aluminum alloys 3003 and 3105, used interchangeably, conforming to ASTM B209. The product is cold rolled to an H-14 temper (half hard) which provides the required strength to resist in serivce abuse.

Aluminum's resistance to atmospheric corrosion makes it the ideal metal lagging in most marine, chemical and industrial environments. Excellent cost savings can be achieved through long service life with little maintenance.

AMS aluminum lagging is available in smooth, stucco embossed or 3/16" corrugated (TVR) finishes. It is supplied with a mositure retarder, which consists of 40 pound kraft paper coated with 1.5 mil thick, low density polyethylene film, heat and pressure bonded to the interior surface. Colors are available. Also available in Stainless Steel.

AMS aluminum lagging is available in .016", .020", .024", .032", and .040" thicknesses. Roll widths are 36" and 48". The roll lengths are 100 ft per roll except for .032" and .040", which are 50 ft per roll.

AMS Blast Seal products are specifically designed as a gasket for missile blast doors and hatches on board U.S. Navy ships. They can also be used for water tight and fume tight doors and hatches.

AMS Blast Seal gaskets are a high strength and high heat resistant packing. Made from a 35 durometer high strength silicone core (per ASTM D-2000), BLAST SEAL is is reinforced with a double jacketing of stainless steel wire (per ASTM F-205) plied with a fiberglass yarn. The plied yarn passes the "skin back" or "unravel" test. Each jacket is then treated with a silicone coating to ensure high temperature resistance while maintaining maximum flexibility and minimum permeability.

AMS Foil Tape

Principal Uses

AMS Foil Tape is used for seam and patching of foil and FSK-faced insulation in marine applications requiring USCG approved materials.

Features and Benefits

AMS Foil Tape features an aggressive acrylic adhesive for quick and long lasting bond. The foil provides an impermeable vapor retardant.

AMS Foil Tape can be laminated to our GT007 tape with a specially formulated adhesive system and supplied with a PSA backing, offering the user a glass joining tape with the benefit of both a vapor barrier and a PSA installation system.

Applications and Storage

Surface to which tape will be applied must be clean and dry, and free of contaminants. Apply pressure with plastic squeege. I deal storage conditions are 60 to 80 degrees farenheight, with low humidity.

AMS Spray Shields

AMS Spray Shields, also called Flange or Safety Shields are designed and fabricated to be used in engineering spaces on naval and commercial vessels. Spray Shields are to be installed around flange connectors on mechanical piping systems that carry fluids under pressure. In the event of a failure of the flange gasket or flange itself, our shields will ask as a diffuser of the high pressure fluids that will escape from the system. AMS Spray Shields will prevent exposure of these liquids on personnel and equipment.

AMS Spray Shields are fabricated in accordance with ASTM F-1138 and NAVSEA Drawing #80064- 2145518 Revision G.

AMS Spray Shields are fabricated using multiple layers (folded or piled) of aluminized fiberglass cloth per Mil-C-20079 Type 1, Class 10, a silicone coated fiberglass cloth per NAVSEA Drawing 80064-2145518 and stitched together with a fully sintered fiberglass thread meeting Mil-C-20079 Type 3, class 3. Widths are 2” through 16” with roll lengths of 30’ (2”-8”) and 20’ (9”-16”). Other widths and lengths are available upon request.

Note: Revision G shields do not have the installation hardware (hooks, washers and tie wire) included. If hardware is required, please specify when placing your order. It can either be furnished separately or applied to the shield. All shields are packaged per ATM-D-3951 unless otherwise specified.

AMS TDAB Duct Bands

AMS Heat Shrink Duct Bands

AMS Duct Bands (also called TDAB) are used to stop sealing joint leaks in HVAC duct systems. It has been used extensively for shipboard and for marine applications.

Made of Raychem cross-linked low density polyolefin, it is pre-coated with an adhesive sealant. AMS heat Shrink Duct Bands give mechanically strong, pressure tight seals that are easily installed. Repair patch discs are also available.

When heated, AMS Duct Band shrink and forces the hot melt sealant into all surface irregularities, while the polyolefin conforms and adheres to the surface substrate.

AMS WM white mylar tape is a fire resistant polyester film that is laminated to a fiberglass reinforcing scrim using a fire retardant adhesive. White Mylar offers excellent puncture resistance, high tear strength and can be heat sealed. White Mylar Tape (no PSA) meets the requirements of USCG 164.012 (interior finish). White Mylar Tape is available with or without pressure sensitive adhesive (PSA) backing.


AMS WM tape is used primarily as a joint seal material for marine insulation boards such as polyimide (DOD-I-24688 or MIL-DTL-24688 Type 2, Class 5), fiberglass (MIL-I-22023 Type 3) and mineral wool products that have been faced with AMS WM facing.

CalCoat-127 is a proprietary blend of hydraulic cement, calcium silicate and inorganic mineral fibers, with corrosion inhibitors, that provides a smooth finish over high-temperature insulation. No wire mesh is required. It can also be used as a general-purpose insulating cement, as it is easy to trowel and resists wetting after initial application. One bag will cover a minimum of

30 sq. ft. at 1” (2.8 square meters at 25 mm) thick. CalCoat-127 can be painted with water- or oil-base paints.


Due to its composition and low thermal conductivity, CalCoat-127 is recommended for finishing use with calcium silicate or perlite insulation in high-temperature piping and equipment applications. Because of its corrosion inhibiting properties, it is especially recom- mended for industrial processing and power generating facility applications using stainless steel piping and operating at temperatures up to 1200°F (649°C).

Government regulations and other listed specifications require specific lot testing, and prohibit the certification of compliance after shipment has been made. Foster® Sealfas® Coating is a white, fire resistive, tough, washable, abrasion-resistant indoor coating for thermal insulation. It is also used as a lagging and lap adhesive for canvas and glass lagging cloth. It has excellent brushing characteristics, which will result in better coverage, and more uniformly coated surfaces. It presents a neat white finish, and will not yellow or become discolored with age. The surface can be washed free of grease, oil, soot, and other dirt accumulation.

Sealfas Coating 

  • provides a protective finish for insulation on air conditioning ducts and cold water piping when applied in 2 coats with reinforcing fabric embedded between coats. When relative humidity exceeds 75% for continuous periods, or where the insulated piping or equipment contains chilled water, brine or refrigerant, additional vapor barrier protection is suggested.

  • is compatible with polystyrene and polyurethane foam insulations. It may be applied to the joint or edges of fibrous duct liner insulations to seal and prevent air erosion.

  • conforms with current requirements regarding use in meat and poultry processing areas under federal inspection. Letter of certification is available upon request.

  • meets the requirements of Military Specification MIL-A-3316C Class 1, Grade A, and is listed on the Q.P.L.

  • is approved by the U.S. Coast Guard under 164.012 and 164.112 (SOLAS/IMO approval).

  • is produced under the classification and follow-up service of Underwriter’s Laboratories, Inc. and meets NFPA 90A and 90B 25/50 requirements.

Store and apply between 40oF (4oC) and 100oF (38oC), protect from freezing until dry.

Always test foil and paper facings for acceptable adhesion before using.

Rubber Adhesive

Armaflex® 520 Adhesive is an air-drying contact adhesive that is excellent for joining seams and butt joints of Armaflex Pipe and Sheet Insulations for line temperatures up to 250°F (120°C). The adhesive may also be used to apply Armaflex Sheet Insulation to flat or curved metal surfaces that will operate at temperatures up to 180°F (82°C).

VAPOR SAFE COATING meets NFPA 90A and 90B 25/50

Foster® Vapor-Safe® Coating is a water base, fire-resistive, flexible, high solids vapor barrier finish for most types of thermal insulation, including polystyrene foam. It may be used over dry concrete, finishing cement, and most metals.

  • has the water resistance and low water vapor permeance normally found in only solvent based products. It can be used in high humidity environments, and greatly retards water vapor permeation. It is non-flammable in the wet state.

  • is formulated for both indoor and light duty commercial outdoor use. It is U.V. resistant. It has a mild latex “paint type” odor, and is designed for use on pipes, vessels, ducts, and equipment operating below ambient temperatures.

  • is ideal for vapor sealing ASJ, FRK, and FSK jackets and board facings at joints, laps and over staple and weld pin punctures. It is an excellent duct board closure sealant. Do not exceed 1/8” (3.2mm) wet film thickness.

  • meets the requirements of Military Specification MIL-C-19565C, Type II.

  • conforms with current requirements regarding use in meat and poultry processing areas under federal inspection. Letter of certification is available upon request.

  • contains no asbestos, lead, mercury, or mercury compounds.
