Rapid Runway Repair (RRR) for Military Applications

AMS Composite Fiberglass Mats

AMS Matting system

During a hostile military event, the prime targets are airfields. Keeping aircraft from taking off and preventing others from landing is strategically paramount. That is why airfield damage repair (ADR) is vitally important. AMS represents Ready Mat, a leader in the Rapid Runway Repair (RRR) system that utilizes Folded Fiberglass Mats (FFM). The Ready Mat FFM system is fully compliant to RRR-88003, 89-001, 89-002 and RRR-89-003.

This system is fully compliant to the requirements of United States Air Force (USAF) Technical Manual 10-219 and is approved by the United States Corp of Engineers. AMS matting systems are a complete RRR program that includes foreign object debris (FOD) cover, installation hardware, support tools, distance to go and minimum operating system (MOS) edge marker kits. Our fiberglass composite mats are typically used for military applications, but also have commercial uses where temporary ground and road cover is required.

The airfield damage repair described above using FFM FOD cover is currently certified for use by the USAF for use with but not limited to the following aircraft: F-4, F-5, F-8, F-14, F-15, F-16, F-17, F-18, F-22, A-10, and C-130.

AMS TR fiberglass composite mats are used for temporary ground cover or roads. Applications include lawn cover, heavy vehicle support, access roads, temporary parking lots, and wetland access. Our TR mats are lightweight and durable, designed to meet both military and public sector demands. Our standard TR matting withstands a wheel load of 35,000 lbs. on a ground surface of CBR-4 or greater. AMS engineers can design matting systems for higher wheel load factors and ground surfaces lower than CBR-4 by determining the proper section dimensions, laminate, and core schedules. The foundation and core of AMS is based on a process-based system that prioritizes health, safety, environment and quality (HSEQ) issues. This management system establishes and underpins our ability to deliver materials and services on a consistently high level. Our quality system, implemented across all operations meets Mil-I-45208.

Folding Fiberglas Mats (FFM)

FFM Folding Fiberglass Mats

Air Forces around the world fly and fight from their air bases. These air bases provide an immediate and lucrative target for the enemy. Damage to not only aircraft on the ground but to airfield pavements is a primary wartime mission. Additionally, damage from natural disaters needs to be repaired expeditiously. This is why airfield damage repair or ADR is so vitally important.

Ready Mat is the leading manufacturer of the US Air Force approved method of rapid runway repair (RRR). This system is an expedient program of training, materials and installation tools that will provide the necessary in field ADR. This repair method for foreign object debris (FOD) craters utilizes folded fiberglass mats (FFM). FFM's are made from layering fiberglass cloth with various resin compounds to form a high strength composite panel. The FOD craters are filled with gravel and the FFM's are deployed and anchored as per instructional guidelines found in USAF Tech Manual 10-219.

FFM's comply with Mil-DTL-32265, RRR-88-003, 89-001, 89-002 (Std bushings) and 89-003 (helical bushings). Each FFM is approximately 30' x 54' and weighs over 3000 lbs. FFM's can be ordered individually or as a kit. A kit contains 2 FFM's with joining panels and hardware for systematic joining and ground anchoring. FOD Cover kits are also available, containing 8 FFM kits and a support tool kit.FFM's can always be designed and manufactured according to customer needs and requirements.
